When the lights go out & screaming into the void

Plus a fun new craft fair display article, new podcast episodes and more!

Do you ever have one of those weeks where you think you know how it will go, and then life just lifes you? Who hasn’t been there, right?

Last week, Mr HMS and I were on a trip to Spain and were visiting Santiago de Compostela to see friends. We had a pretty full schedule, but I had carved out all of Monday afternoon to finish my writing for the week. The rest of the week we had a packed schedule, but it was to be a blissful quiet writing afternoon. Ah yes, life had other plans. The countries of Spain and Portugal had a widespread power outage that day! This wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025. Isn’t it funny how life just does that sometimes? The hotel we were in had a generator, but soon the internet went out and that was that. So much for writing.

Late that evening, we took a stroll out by the famous cathedral. It was pitch black because no one had lights, except for our cell phone flashlights. Groups had gathered in the square and were in community by candlelight. It was inspiring to see how they responded when things went dark. As we looked up, we could see stars overhead. It was breathtaking. Many locals shared that this was the first time in their life they could see the cathedral and the stars together. There was something magical there. We just could not see it just hidden behind the everyday light pollution. It makes me reflect and wonder what else we might not be seeing behind the everyday noise?

Thank you for being here, and for the beauty you bring to our world as an artisan business. 🙏
