Pinterest Search Trends During COVID-19 Lockdowns
Amid the growing online usage due to widespread COVID-19 lockdowns, Pinterest users are coming to the platform to search for recipe ideas, at-home entertainment, and creative ways to connect with family. It is no wonder that bread and baking-related search terms have spiked.
“Browsing Pinterest gives me ideas for basic needs (like how to cook what is in the pantry) but also ideas of how to engage the family when we are shut-in. Yoga, art projects, and bread-making are all on the agenda for this week,” shared one Pinterest user from Arkansas.
In addition to looking for ways to make the perfect sourdough, Pinners want to help small businesses. Searches for “support small businesses” are up around the world with a 746% increase in the US, 837% in Canada, and 459% in the UK. Other popular search queries are “family games” (+1863% increase in the US), “check on your friends quotes” (+300% in Canada), and “inspirational nurse quotes (358% up in the UK).

Shopify Unveils New Mobile App
E-commerce giant Shopify introduced a new app that offers personalized recommendations and helps shoppers discover local businesses. “We are setting out to reimagine the online shopping experience for customers — to provide them greater convenience, transparency, and personalization,” Shopify explained on their website. The new app called Shop is available in iOS and Android app stores.
