The Newsstand June 2019

Etsy's top trends and Instagram's new features

We’ve been talking about how people are letting go of minimalism and embracing maximalism for a while now. Recently, Etsy announced that the bold and loud trend is also taking over home décor this year.

In their latest Home Décor Trend Guide for 2019, Etsy discusses the top ways homeowners are choosing to prepare their space for the warmer days ahead.

Tie-Dye Revival

Get ready for another ‘70s trend taking over bedding, mirrors, napkins, and more this year. Over the past three months alone, Etsy has seen more than 267K searches for “tie-dye!”

But unlike the tie-dye patterns of the past, 2019’s version is more sophisticated, with lighter colors and pastel hues. In fact, Etsy likes to refer to the tie-dye of today as floral’s fun and rebellious cousin.

Deco Designs

Check this out: Etsy has reported over 2.7 million searches for “art deco” in the past three months. It’s safe to say that people are going crazy over the 19th-century art deco trend this year! Shoppers are bringing luxe textures into their homes such as geometric patterns, pops of metallic, sun designs, and even velvet.

Wallpapers, Not on Walls

If you thought wallpaper only belonged on walls, think again. This year, plenty of shoppers are choosing to use this design staple in the most unexpected places, like staircases, dressers, and even cabinets.

Over the past three months, Etsy reported a 385% increase in searches for “peel stick wallpaper,” over 15,000 searches for “floor decals,” and more than 19,000 searches for “stair decals.” As for bathrooms and kitchens, Etsy also saw an 89% increase in searches for “stick tiles” over the past three months.
