YouTube Rolls Out Hashtag Landing Pages
YouTube quietly rolled out dedicated landing pages to promote the use of hashtags on the video platform. Made popular by Twitter and Instagram, hashtags didn’t really serve a purpose on YouTube... until now. With its new hashtag landing pages, YouTube users can now discover new videos related to a specific hashtag.
This new feature is particularly interesting for artisan sellers because it allows your videos to populate on niche hashtag pages. “For instance, you may find that the #interiordesign hashtag is a crowded place, with 8,400 channels and 29,000 videos, but a niche hashtag like #interiordesignlivingroom has under 100 channels and videos. If people began to use hashtags regularly to seek out videos, using narrowly targeted tags could potentially help creators’ videos be more easily found,” explains Sarah Perez from TechCrunch.
Currently, YouTube’s hashtag landing pages aren’t searchable like hashtags on Facebook or Twitter. They can only be accessed by clicking on a hashtag in a video. However, if you’ve found a hashtag you like and want to get back to it, you can just type the URL format of youtube.com/hashtag/[yourterm] in your browser.
