How the Pandemic has Changed Small Business Priorities

2020 was a year that many would rather forget and amongst everything that happened, small businesses had to pivot more rapidly than ever before. Statewide lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders caused more and more shoppers to purchase online, accelerating the digital transformation.

The annual business trends report by Salesforce, which surveyed over 2,300 SMBs between March and August 2020, has provided some interesting insights into how the pandemic has impacted small and medium businesses. Here are three key findings:

  • More business owners said it has become a challenge to plan for the long term future of their business after the pandemic.

  • More business owners find it challenging to “personalize customer engagements” than prior to Covid.

  • Business owners are focusing on digital more than ever and are now “engaging customers on their preferred channels” more than they had been.
