When I first opened Jill Makes, I couldn’t have imagined it would have grown as much as it has. It’s been a learning experience for me from the start, and Jill Makes (my jewelry brand) has evolved over time to become a more focused business. When my Etsy shop launched (under a different name), it looked completely different than it does today. I had decorated a pair of Toms shoes with fabric and thought of listing the pair in my Etsy shop. So I hung them on a clothesline outside my home on a sunny day and took a picture. The picture turned out to work well as a listing photo, and I sold that pair. People started sending me custom requests, and I quickly realized that I didn’t enjoy making them.
