Hilarious market mishap reveals unexpected sale: Discover a funny tale of dog treat sampling gone wrong and the unexpected success that followed at a makers' market.

"My very first makers’ market that I participated in was one for the books! I sell a variety of handmade goods made by New York State Artisans. At the time, one of the items was handmade dog treat chips. I had a tray out displaying the bags of dog chips and two jars open for dogs to sample. I turned my back for all of 30 seconds and when I turned back around, a woman had her hand in the jar, munching down on a dog chip! I froze! Then managed to squeak out, “No! Excuse me! Those are for dogs! The woman looked at me and spit out the dog chip, but to my surprise wasn’t totally cringing in disgust (after all, the chips are practically human-grade — just chicken and sweet potato). She picked up the bags and read the label a little closer, nodded her head in understanding, and wound up buying two bags! No clue if she even has a dog at home... That was my first sale EVER. "

"One time when I was doing a craft fair in Cornwall, an elderly woman came over to my stall. I greeted her but she was very quiet. All of a sudden she burst into tears, so I started to panic and in my head, I began questioning whether I had plagiarized another artist’s work or perhaps this woman's, even though I knew that I hadn't. I asked if she was ok and she just pointed to one of my wooden plaques and said, "I don't care how much it is, I want it." I think she could tell that I was a bit confused, so she told me that she was just so touched by all of the tiny details on the plaque and that the quote, which was also on it, had made her think of her husband who had passed away a year ago. I started crying as well. I was so flattered that my art had touched someone in that way. "
