Finding My Why - helping at-risk teenage girls

Hi there, beauties! My name is Hillari Ladd, owner and creative drive behind Recherch’e Organics LLC, a small batch body care company created to seamlessly blend together the qualities of health and beauty. 

I wish that someone had reminded me back in 2011 of the importance of being able to pronounce a company’s name. Being a wordsmith and a lover of antiquated verbiage, of course that is not what occurred. Recherch’e, pronounced Rae-Shar-Shae, means seeking out something unusual, exquisite, or of unique beauty. And yes, after I learned of this word, there was no turning back. 

My history is as an Herbalist and Holistic Nutrition Consultant. As a young girl, I remember wandering around the mountains and river bottoms of Montana making potions, elixirs, and all things magical. So, it surprised nobody when I chose this as my vocation. But in 2011 two considerable things occurred that rocked my world. First, the herbal product industry was changing and many more laws and regulations were being established. It was difficult to ship things across state lines that contained alcohol, such as tinctures, and I manufactured such things. Second, and even more profound, my eldest son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. 

All told, we spent three months in the Denver Children’s Hospital, uprooted from our home, support structures, and businesses, but we were all together as a family. It was at the bedside of my son that Recherch’e was born. We endured endless hours of doctor appointments, surgeries, and recovery with little ability (especially at first) to leave and go anywhere. Our world became a 20x20 foot hospital room. And with this, I dove head first into creating a new company. All of our first formulations were shaped in that room, supplier lists made, business plan worked through, and yes, the name was chosen there, too. Sitting on the floor with a thesaurus in hand, I created Recherch’e Organics.
