Crisis Management

Learn how to navigate business uncertainty with key crisis management strategies from the lessons of 2020 and prepare for potential economic challenges ahead.

So, what have we learned from the year that was 2020? Last year, I recorded a video that I never thought I’d EVER have to record. It was called “6 steps to respond (vs react) to this crisis with your handmade or Etsy shop.”

Far from being a “this is exactly what you should do” tutorial, my intention with this video was to help my community navigate the uncharted waters we were all entering. This was the ‘before’ video, recorded just as the lockdowns were getting started and “uncertainty” was the only thing we knew for certain.

So much has happened since then, and so much is still happening.

I recently asked myself: what would an “after” video look like? What advice would I give? What have we learned from 2020 that we can take with us moving forward? If we entered a serious economic downturn, would we be better prepared as business owners?

I don’t think there’s a playbook for perfectly managing an economic crisis. Each crisis is different, so there can’t be. I am also not wanting to be all doom and gloom. I am a “the-glass-is-always-half-full” type of person, an optimist to my core. BUT, I am also a planner (I loooove a good plan, makes me feel more in control) so I can’t help but wonder; How can we better prepare for and handle crises as business owners?
