Donning our masks, my daughter and I ventured out of the house to get groceries. As we followed the directional one-way signs, I joked that running mundane errands now felt like going on a grand adventure. She quickly responded, “I would rather be at the lake.”
I totally agree with her. After months cooped up in the house preparing endless meals each day, I am craving a get-a-way as well.
For the remainder of the day, I dreamed of water. Like a movie on repeat, I recalled every time I had ever been near water. I thought about Slide Rock State Park in Arizona and kayaking around Lake Anna in Virginia. I giggled when I remembered learning to boogie board in the Atlantic Ocean. While whale watching was a bumpy, slightly nauseating trip, seeing whales and dolphins leap out of the water was breathtaking.
And just like that, I was in a state of complete and utter peace. Being near water and mentally revisiting those trips, freed my soul. The weight of worrying about a global pandemic had dissipated. I suddenly had energy, motivation, and creativity that I had been chasing for weeks.
