Handmade products are a source of beauty and enjoyment that enrich people’s lives. Each purchase from an artisan business is vital to supporting these wonderful small businesses. At times small artisan businesses can feel lost in the sea of mass consumerism. One question on my mind for some time now has been how to continue to elevate the handmade industry? In my role as editor of the magazine, how can I be a force for good that helps our industry?

Last spring Amy Bierstedt reached out to me with a great idea. She took the initiative to register National Handmade Day as a holiday. She also needed help to reach more artisans to push for wider promotion and adoption of the holiday. And this is where the magazine is stepping in to help.  But first, let’s share Amy’s story so you can learn about this remarkable artisan.
