All It Takes is the Right ‘Yes’ To Be a Success

Before Henry Ford installed a moving assembly line for his Model-T Automobile, reducing the time to build from 12-hours to 30-minutes, the idea that a machine would replace the horse seemed like a ludicrous idea.
Machines were bulky, hardly worked right, and were very expensive. People often aren’t able to see beyond the limitations of their time. However, today we see that Ford’s creative approach to streamlining automotive assembly not only replaced the horse as our main means of transportation, it essentially made the horse obsolete.
One would think that in 2020, people would be savvy enough to avoid falling victim to the same “lack of vision as people did back in the early 1900s… but one would be wrong.
It turns out that Mike Rothman ran into a similar bunch of ‘nay-sayers’ when he went fishing for people to invest in his novel idea, “Fatherly.” Similar to Henry Ford, Mike Rothman saw something that others in his field simply couldn’t; something that today seems like a no brainer.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. First, who is Mike Rothman?
How a Man Became Fatherly
Mike Rothman is no stranger when it comes to marketing to men. He’s spent close to ten years working in the marketing department at Thrillist, a media publication company focused primarily on men. He was part of the initial team and grew alongside the company. Eventually, Rothman began noticing how the founding team had aged – most of them wearing wedding rings with babies on the way.
This insight gave Rothman an “aha moment” and he saw an opportunity. He realized that there was no go-to digital source that catered to adults – specifically, men – who were transitioning from being single to being a responsible father.
And so, the idea of Fatherly was born… well, not exactly. This was more like the spark that set off the idea. It wouldn’t be until late 2012, when he met with another like-minded individual, that he began to formalize the Fatherly concept. Now all they had to do was “prove that it works” which turned out to be harder than they anticipated.
