13 Things to do before you launch a crowdfunding community

A structured approach to managing a crowdfunding campaign

Simply posting a listing on a crowdfunding site like Kickstarter is not going to be effective. Smart crowd funders know that there’s too much competition on any given crowdfunding platform to just post and walk away, hoping for the best.

According to Indiegogo, successful campaigns usually have 30 percent of their fundraising goal attained within the first two days. Crowdfunding campaigns that don’t meet this goal have a much harder time actually getting funded. On Indiegogo, unless you have at least two contributions, your campaign won’t even be searchable after 48 hours after launch!

That means you need to do a lot of selling and a lot of prep work before your crowdfunding push goes live. Interest attracts more interest, but if you aren’t coming out of the gate with a bang, other campaigns will quickly overwhelm yours, and your listing will fade away on peoples’ feeds as it gets older.

  1. Form a team

You can’t do it all yourself, and you shouldn’t try. Find people you trust with a variety of different skills, and ask them to be on your advisory board. Most won’t be bothered by it, and many will be flattered.

Look for people who can help you with what you’re weakest in:

  • Accounting

  • Online marketing

  • Video production

  • Web design

  • Sales

  • Mailing campaigns

  • Copywriting
