The Steps I Took To Open A Brick & Mortar Store
From Scratch Farm's founder shares her inspiring journey from photography to natural products, revealing the steps and personal challenges behind opening her brick & mortar store.

I’m Amy Bierstedt, a single mom of two incredible young men and the founder of From Scratch Farm. I began my entrepreneurial journey over 15 years ago when I decided to take a leap into professional photography because friends and family were begging me to use my skills on their loved ones. So, when I began making natural home and body products for my family 10 years later, it was no surprise that I was okay with taking another leap (when friends and family encouraged me once again to follow a passion).
The businesses had nothing in common, but my gut told me that I needed to do both. From Scratch Farm had simple beginnings. I only kept a handful of products in stock and I tried to sell on etsy. I set up a little corner in my photography studio’s building and sold at a few markets. It was a small endeavor, but then I was faced with a life-changing divorce, a new home, new pressures, new stresses, and new goals. I NEEDED to succeed.
