Etsy Trend Predictions for 2019: The Year of ‘Being Real’
According to Etsy, this year is all about embracing your own, individual reality – letting go of idealistic thoughts (think: unicorns) and distractions. Whether it’s about living life to its full potential or celebrating lazy days spent on the couch, shoppers are about to ‘get real.’
Etsy predicts a healthy interest in all-natural products, earthy tones and colors, and the ultimate realization that the world isn’t perfect, but you can always do something about it!
Etsy’s Color of the Year: Burnt Orange
The platform has said that burnt orange is going to be everywhere.
Etsy predicts shoppers will embrace this earthy color in 2019 because it is unapologetically natural, yet still carries a refreshing charm of its own. Burnt orange is expected to confidently make its way into home décor, clothing, statement jewelry, and even mugs and utensils.
Bigger and Bolder: Maximalism
In 2018, shoppers took their first step away from the ultra-minimalist lifestyle. This year, Etsy predicts they will go even further and embrace maximalism – bigger, bolder, and brighter.
Letting go of idealism involves learning to appreciate the imperfections in life. For shoppers, this means accepting clashing patterns, colors, and styles in both their homes and outfits. Think of it as a rebellion against the unrealistic standards of order and the pressure to be “Pinterest-worthy.”
Self-Sufficient Décor: Herbariums
Remember when terrariums were all the rage? This year, Japanese-inspired herbariums are taking over.
Already, Etsy has seen over 281,000 searches related to ‘pressed flowers’ in the past three months alone.
Unlike their fresh and high-maintenance cousins, dried florals and herbs are the perfect way to bring the outdoors to the inside. They are colorful, self-sufficient, and make for a natural, realistic décor for the busy lifestyle.
