How we raised $6,500 in 30 days on Kickstarter

Discover how one couple turned $100 into a $6,500 Kickstarter success story by leveraging creativity, passion, and a unique approach to entrepreneurship.

Arielle and I have been married 5 years. We quickly learned I didn’t enjoy working for people, and Arielle didn’t enjoy being stuck as a stay at home mom. She needed a creative outlet, and I needed to feel like I wasn’t a slave to a paycheck. After we set those boundaries for ourselves and defined what we wanted, then we kind of stumbled into a lifestyle that worked for us.

When Arielle wanted a little extra spending money, I took $100 out of our savings (which was a lot of money for us), and I told her to use this money, not for spending, but to start a business with it. That way the business can give you a little extra spending money every month.

Arielle chose Etsy and built a brand focusing on natural beauty and creating awareness for mental health. She went to rock shops and bought natural gemstones to keep a “raw” theme. She also kept everything pretty minimal after her own style and what was popular at the time. She never had made jewelry before, but she felt a creative itch, so she designed her own pieces. She put her own twists on current trends, and most importantly, she stuck with it. There was a time when she was only getting one sale per week.
